Since 2005, the Developmental Core has provided more than $2.2 million dollars and 34 awards in research and training funding to junior faculty and other HIV/AIDS researchers. Examples of recent projects funded include:
New Investigator Awards
In 2010, we awarded 6 New Investigator Awards with topics ranging from social networks in Native American women contributing to HIV risk to phosphosignalling correlates of tuberculosis latency and reactivation.
Trainee Support Grants
Over the past 3 years, we have provided over 45 trainees (eg, students, fellows, junior faculty, post-docs) financial support for a variety of activities to support their career development, including attending and presenting at scientific meetings and workshops.
Emerging Opportunity Grants
In 2011, we awarded four EOGs.
Annual STD and AIDS Research Symposium
At the November 2010 STD and AIDS Research Symposium , over 150 individuals from 14 institutions attended. It featured research presentations by pre- and postdoctoral UW STD & AIDS Research Trainees, and recipients of Developmental Awards from the UW/FHCRC Center for AIDS Research and STI Cooperative Research Center, along with a keynote lecture titled, "Mother never saw it coming: My career in sexually transmitted diseases" by Dr. P. Frederick Sparling, MD, and a panel discussion on the “Impact of Drug Resistance on Transmission and Control of STDs and HIV.”
