Matthew Sparke is a Professor of Geography and
International Studies, and Director of the Global Health Minor at
the University of Washington. He is the author of In the Space
of Theory: Postfoundational Geographies of the Nation-State
(Minneapolis: 2005), and Introduction to Globalization: Ties and
Tensions in an Unevenly Integrated World (Oxford: 2012).
He has also published more broadly on topics relating to global
health, neoliberalism, governance and mapping. He is currently
working on a new book with Katharyne Mitchell entitled The New
Washington Consensus: Education, Global Health and the Rise of
Philanthrocapitalism.
