Health Disorders: Complex Diseases Being Studied Using Genomics
With the sequencing of the entire genome complete, a new science called genomics has the potential to improve our understanding of complex diseases such as asthma, diabetes, cardiovascular health (familial hypercholesterolemia), and obesity, as well as improve medical treatment of these diseases.
These diseases are caused by variations in more than one gene or caused by multiple genes interacting with each other and the environment. Testing for and treating complex diseases present challenges, but genomics can help.
