The Department of Spiritual Care
at Harborview Medical Center

Chaplains from the Department of Spiritual Care are available 24 hours a day at Harborview Medical Center and weekdays from 8:00 AM till 4:30 PM at the University of Washington Medical Center. 

Our chaplains provide emotional and spiritual support to a diverse population of patients, family members, friends and staff regardless of their religious affiliation.

Department of Spiritual Care Mission Statement
The mission of the Department of Spiritual Care is to provide high quality, cross-culturally sensitive spiritual care to patients, families and staff of Harborview Medical Center and the University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC), as well as to provide pastoral education to clergy, theological students, and qualified lay persons in the hospital and the
larger community which the Medical Center serves. Please click here for a detailed history of the program.

We can serve by:

  • Listening
  • Offering support during times of crisis, loss, injury or illness
  • Prayer
  • Providing sacraments or rituals such as baptism, communion, blessing, anointing, viaticum
  • Contacting local clergy of various faiths
