Julie Hanada, MA
Director  and ACPE Supervisor

Rev. Julie Hanada joined HMC as the Director of Spiritual Care in October 2007.  She is an ACPE Supervisor.  She joins us from Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in Glendale, AZ where she was their Spiritual Care Department Director and CPE Program Manager.

Julie has been an ordained Buddhist Priest of the Pure Land Tradition (Jodo Shinshu) since 1988 and has been a temple priest for over 12 years.  She holds three levels of ordination (ritual, teacher, and international teacher) and is the first person of her denomination to be certified as an ACPE supervisor. Additionally she taught the first Buddhist Pastoral Care course at the Institute of Buddhist Studies, an affiliate of the Graduate Theological Union.  Her CPE training began at the Portland VA Medical Center.  Her supervisory training started at Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City, CA and concluded at Providence Portland Medical Center in Portland, OR.

Julie's focus of supervision is on collaboration, dialogue and play. Originally a California Girl, she also lived in Kyoto, Japan where she did extensive studies for ordination.  She enjoys cooking, reading, exploring Seattle and the Northwest, and just started snowshoeing

Amy Furth, M. Div, BCC
ACPE Supervisor and Clinical Manager & Educator, University of Washington Medical Center

Rev. Amy Furth, ACPE Supervisor, is an ordained minister of the United Church of Christ (UCC) and a chaplain certified by the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC). She joined our CPE faculty in 2011 when the University of Washington Medical Center hired her to develop spiritual care services at UWMC.

Amy is a native of the San Francisco Bay Area.  She began her CPE training as a Resident with the HealthCare Chaplaincy in New York City where she began her chaplaincy career at a long-term care facility in East Harlem. She completed her Supervisory CPE training at Methodist Hospital of Southern California where she subsequently served at the Manager of Pastoral Education.  Amy has also led the Spiritual Care and Clinical Education program at the Bay Area Center for CPE at St. Mary’s Medical Center in San Francisco.  Amy’s practice as a clinical pastoral educator is based in the values and perspective of relational-cultural theory.

Although new to the Northwest, Amy is feeling right at home in Seattle and appreciates being a part of an academic community in the midst of so many rich educational and cultural opportunities.  She is also becoming familiar with  Interstate 5 on weekends when she loves being with her extended family in Portland, including her grandson, Jamie.

Sean Doll O'Mahoney, M. Div., BCC
ACPE Supervisory Candidate

Sean Doll O’Mahoney has been at Harborview since 2008, when he served as a chaplain resident.  Following this residency year, he pursued a second year of residency with a specialization in mental health. In June 2010 he began supervisory training here at Harborview.

Sean, a lay Roman Catholic minister, is board certified as a chaplain with the National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC).  Additionally he is certified as a Supervisory Candidate with ACPE.  He holds a Masters of Divinity from Weston Jesuit School of Theology (now part of Boston College School of Theology and Ministry).  He served as a Jesuit Volunteer with a hospice program in Seattle and additionally has training as a spiritual director and prison minister.

Sean’s supervision invites students to be courageous, curious and creative.  He was born in the Midwest and raised mostly on the East Coast, but has grown to love the diversity and beauty of the Northwest.  He is married to Rachel, who serves as a Campus Minister at Seattle University, and in 2009 they welcomed their daughter, Junia, into the world.  Sean enjoys baking bread, playing guitar, and exploring the parks and beaches of the Northwest with his family and dog.
