Julie Hanada

Director

Rev. Julie Hanada joined HMC as the Director of Spiritual Care in October 2007.  She is an ACPE Associate Supervisor.  She joins us from Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in Glendale, AZ where she was their Spiritual Care Department Director and CPE Program Manager.

She has been an ordained Buddhist Priest of the Pure Land Tradition (Jodo Shinshu) since 1988 and has been a temple priest for over 12 years.  She holds three levels of ordination (ritual, teacher, and international teacher) and is the first person of her denomination to be certified as an ACPE supervisor. Additionally she taught the first Buddhist Pastoral Care course at the Institute of Buddhist Studies, an affiliate of the Graduate Theological Union.  Her CPE training began at the Portland VA Medical Center.  Her supervisory training started at Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City, CA and concluded at Providence Portland Medical Center in Portland, OR.

Julie's focus of supervision is on collaboration, dialogue and play. Originally a California Girl, she also lived in Kyoto Japan where she did extensive studies for ordination.  She enjoys cooking, reading, exploring Seattle and the Northwest, and just started snowshoeing
