Dr. Mayock

Working in both clinical and basic physiologic research, Dr. Mayock is investigating the effects of certain clinical interventions on the incidence and severity of chronic lung disease (bronchopulmonary dysplasia). Mayock and colleagues are evaluating whether inhaled nitric oxide might decrease the risk of developing this disorder in high-risk premature infants.

Additionally, Mayock is studying the effects of surfactant administration later in the clinical course of the infant to determine if booster surfactant doses may allow infants to be weaned from mechanical ventilatory support sooner. Mayock is also investigating the effects of common clinical interventions (volume expansion, vasopressor infusion) during neonatal intensive care on cerebral blood flow and metabolism during development. Lastly, he studies the effects of prenatal alcohol exposure on cerebral blood flow and metabolism during fetal development.
