Dr. Moeller studies microglial cells, the primary immune cells of the nervous system, and the signaling molecules that trigger microglial activity and inflammation in the brain. He is currently focusing on compounds that can leak in the brain during seizures and strokes. Strokes occur more frequently than brain tumors in children and inflammation associated with strokes can cause severe brain damage. Better knowledge of the signaling pathways involved in brain inflammation may lead to better interventions to minimize the impact of strokes and other brain injuries.
