Michael Murias, Ph.D.

Dr. Murias' research applies electroencephalographic methods to study human neocortical connectivity within populations of children with developmental disabilities and children developing typically. This work fits into current conceptual frameworks of typical cognition arising from distributed neural activity. In addition, work in attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and autism spectrum disorder suggests pathological global patterns of cortical underconnectivity and local patterns of overconnectivity, which can vary according to task demands. These patterns suggest that inefficient and inconsistent communication among neurons may explain some behavioral differences associated with developmental disorders.
