Dr. Novotny uses advanced MR imaging to study normal development and pediatric epilepsy that includes multivoxel and single voxel MRS, fMRI, simultaneous EEG/fMRI brain morphometry and DTI Multimodal brain imaging. The integration of clinical neurophysiology (EEG, Evoked potentials, MEG) with fMRI, PET and MRI is a primary area of interest. Novotny's current work involves the following: (a) the functional brain mapping in epilepsy surgery with quantitative analysis of intracranial EEG for seizure prediction, (b) seizure localization and brain function, (c) correlations of non-invasive presurgical fMRI of function with intracranial brain mapping and, (d) brain imaging as a phenotypic marker for genetic epilepsies.
