Dr. Strandjord's research focuses on improvement of quality of care delivered to newborn infants. He has participated in studies investigating the frequency of medical errors in the care of pediatric patients, as well as methods to improve the reporting of medical errors. In development are innovative training strategies to improve the skill of practitioners in newborn resuscitation, including review of video-recorded resuscitations of actual high-risk infants with care providers and computer simulations of newborn resuscitations. Strandjord is currently engaged in a study testing the efficacy of screen-based simulator of newborn resuscitation as a tool for augmenting routine Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) training. This study will test the knowledge and skills retention of pediatric residents trained in NRP, with and without the screen-based simulator.
