Dr. Webster-Stratton’s work focuses on parenting and promoting young children's social skills and problem-solving. Studies include children with early childhood conduct problems, significant behavior disorders, and/or developmental delays, particularly interventions for aggressive children. She is particularly interested in helping families with difficult children, with the goal of reducing misbehavior and strengthening social competence to increase readiness for school. Webster-Stratton is completing studies evaluating her parent, teacher, and child training programs as early school-based prevention programs (preschool through grade three) with the goal of reducing violence and drug abuse in later years. Her research in at-risk children and in mother-child attachment within low-income families enrolled in Early Head Start focuses on whether the Parenting Clinic’s treatment programs would also work as prevention programs in the classroom. Another research project involves children in kindergarten and first grade, with particular focus on families who live in poverty and on new immigrant families. Webster-Stratton is also evaluating (1) the effectiveness of her parent, teacher, and child programs as interventions for children with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (2) the relationship between treatment fidelity and child and family outcomes, using her parent training program as the treatment program.
