H. Steve White

Dr. White’s laboratory is actively engaged in the discovery and development of novel therapeutics for the treatment of epilepsy. White leads a broad-based research program aimed at gaining a further understanding of the factors that contribute to the expression and prevention of seizure activity. Specifically, White and his research group are focusing on: the early identification of therapies that can prevent or treat the cognitive comorbidity and depression associated with early life seizures and epilepsy; assessing the etiological relevance of animal models used to test novel therapies for the treatment of cognitive decline, anxiety, and depression in the pediatric and adult patient with epilepsy; evaluating the negative consequences of anti-seizure drugs on cognition, anxiety and depression in rodent seizure and epilepsy models; and studying the development and behavioral characterization of novel animal models that recapitulate the signs and symptoms of human epilepsy that may result from genetic mutations, encephalopathy, stroke, brain tumors, status epilepticus and other brain insults.
