NWGEC Partnership
Core Function: Technical Assistance and Outreach Training
The Adults and Elders Program is partnering with the Northwest Geriatric Education Center (NWGEC) to improve understanding of health issues related to aging with a developmental disability. The Adults and Elders Program works to improve health for adults with developmental disabilities across the lifespan. NWGEC conducts health promotion training programs and develops education resources for health care and social service professionals working with older adults. Partnership between our two groups promotes dissemination of information on healthy aging to the developmental disability community and provides information on the unique needs of the growing population of adults aging with a developmental disability to health care and social service professionals. As a result of this partnership, the Adults and Elders Program has participated in the annual NWGEC lecture series on aging and provides presentations on aging with developmental disabilities at annual meetings of adult family home providers.
