Autism Information Dissemination
Core Function: Information Development and Dissemination, Technical Assistance, and Outreach Training
The objective of the information dissemination project at the Autism Center is to increase knowledge and awareness about autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and related developmental disabilities among professionals and the general public. Information dissemination activities aim to promote early detection of autism, and inform the community of autism resources available for individuals of all ages with autism. Early detection increases the likelihood that these individuals will receive intervention services that alleviate many long-term impacts of the disorder. Unlike many other disorders, with the proper knowledge, autism can be detected as early as 18 months of age.
In addition, communication strategies have been developed to inform the community about the clinical services and training opportunities offered through the Autism Center and to keep professionals abreast of diagnostic and intervention advancements.
Information dissemination includes an array of communication strategies and materials. The Autism Center website is the primary vehicle for reaching both the professional and community audiences. The center also produces annual reports, books, brochures, fact sheets, and guides that serve to increase awareness about ASD and highlight the work of the Autism Center.
