Autism Task Force
Core Function: Technical Assistance and Outreach Training, Information Development and Dissemination
The Caring for Washington Individuals with Autism Task Force was created by Senate Bill 5311 during the 2005 Legislative Session to study and make recommendations to the legislature regarding the growing incidence of autism and ways to improve the delivery and coordination of autism services in the state. The Department of Health is the lead support agency and provides eight staff for the work of the task force. The Task Force is made up of approximately 15 members, consisting of a mixture of legislators, family members, and school, agency and program representatives from across the state.
The final report and recommendations on how to best prevent, identify, treat, and accommodate the needs of individuals with autism and their families were completed and submitted to the Governor and the 2007 State Legislature. The final budget from the 2007 State Legislature included funding to continue the Autism Task Force for one more year through June 30, 2008 in order to prioritize recommendations from the 2006 report, develop implementation plans and cost estimates for the highest priorities, and monitor federal legislation and funding opportunities. Much of this work will be accomplished through the development of task force subcommittees. |
