Disability Policy Analysis for Department of Services for the Blind
Core Function: Technical Assistance and Outreach Training
CTDS provides technical assistance and policy analysis and implementation to the Washington State Department of Services for the Blind (DSB), primarily related to its Independent Living Program and the Braille Literacy Project. CTDS staff assist the Independent Living Program by developing and monitoring subcontracts with community providers and by providing technical assistance regarding development and implementation of an online case recording system, including provider training. CTDS also assists in the development, implementation and monitoring of the Independent Living Program Strategic Plan and GMAP and represents the DSB on the Washington State Independent Living Council.
For the Braille Literacy Project, CTDS staff conducted research using data on cases closed successfully and unsuccessfully during 2007. The research was guided by a consumer focus group sub-committee appointed by the Director and provided a report to the Department regarding the use of Braille and its relationship to employment success. The research included case reviews and interviews with customers, counselors or other relevant parties.
Additionally, CTDS provides DSB with technical assistance and referral on matters related to Access Technology, ADA, proposed legislation, and interpretation of laws related to disability and employment issues. We also provide ongoing consultation and technical assistance focused on conceptualizing and big picture perspectives for the executive team. |
