Improving Employment Outcomes for People with Disabilities

Contact: Kurt Johnson, 206-685-4181

Core Function: Research and Evaluation

DBTAC Northwest is one of ten regional centers tasked by NIDRR to provide information, training, and technical assistance to employers, people with disabilities, and other entities with responsibilities under the ADA. The centers act as a "one-stop" central, comprehensive resource on ADA issues in employment, public services, public accommodations, and communication.

DBTAC Northwest is contracting with CTDS to guide their research efforts on issues pertaining to the employment of people with disabilities. CTDS is currently working with Rotary Clubs throughout Western Washington to identify barriers to employment for people with disabilities.

The objectives of this contract are to clarify the different types of barriers that influence the hiring of people with disabilities, examine the effects of the type of disability as well as the size of the business on hiring, and to pilot and refine an employer educational intervention based on these findings.
