Meeting The Need
Core Function: Research and Evaluation, Information Development and Dissemination
Meeting the Need (MTN) is a joint effort between the Center on Technology and Disability Studies and the Center for Disability Policy Initiatives (Sherrie Brown), another program within the UCEDD. MTN is an assessment designed to learn more about the support needs of individuals with a developmental disability who live with their family, and the family’s capacity to provide the needed supports. MTN uses the Supports Intensity Scale in an intensive case study approach. Project staff interview families whose members are receiving Family Support Opportunity (FSO) services through Washington State Division of Developmental Disabilities as well as families who remain on a waiting list for FSO services. The examination of family capacity will address formal and informal family and community supports, family income, insurance coverage and support-related expenditures for the family member with a developmental disability. The developmental disabilities community requested this study in order to have the necessary information to successfully advocate for community-based supports for individuals and families. The findings of this study will be used to inform policymakers and key stakeholders as they make decisions related to providing services to care-giving families. |
