Special Education Legal and Policy Training
Core Function: Technical Assistance and Outreach Training
The Special Education Law for Educators Project is funded by the Washington Education Association (WEA) to provide educational staff with information addressing their responsibilities towards special education students. Sherrie Brown is the Principal Investigator. She and Pat Brown are faculty for the courses offered during the current grant year. These include Legal Issues in Serving Students with Special Health Care Needs in the School Setting, Assistive Technology for Educators, and Community-based Instruction: An Overview of the Adults Service System. The online courses provide both continuing education credits (clock hours) and optional academic credits.
In addition, the project produces the Special Education Law Quarterly, a web-based bulletin on current legal topics. A Special Education Law Seminar Series has been added to the activities; it consists of 6-8 presentations held throughout the academic year by professionals in the special education field for UCEDD faculty and students. |
