Elementary DATA (Developmentally Appropriate Treatment for Autism)
Core Function: Technical Assistance and Outreach Training
The Elementary DATA (Developmentally Appropriate Treatment for Autism) project is committed to helping school districts address the issues related to educating school-age students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Our purpose is to help school districts implement an efficient model of service delivery resulting in improved child outcomes which are acceptable to consumers.
Elementary DATA is validating the use of interdisciplinary technical assistance teams (TATs) to assist teachers and other service providers in monitoring progress and making educational decisions for students with ASD. The TATs are made up of school district personnel from a variety of professions who are then trained in evidence-based strategies to provide support to teachers in developing programs and monitoring progress of students with ASA.
Across the school year, TATs assess children and provide assistance to teachers in the areas of data collection, changes in instructional programming, and positive behavior support. The goal of Elementary DATA in creating TATs is to increase the capacity and expertise of school districts to address the diverse needs of students with ASD, thereby promoting and preserving placement of these children in the least restrictive environments.
