Improving the Data-based Decision-making of Preservice Early Intervention Teachers
Core Function: Technical Assistance and Outreach Training, Research and Evaluation
This research and development project focuses on increasing teachers' mastery of data-based decisionmaking. The project will design and implement a curriculum for training for early intervention pre-service professional development that is technology-supported.
The project will consist of two components. The first component is a data-based decision-making curriculum for use in pre-service teacher training. The curriculum will include presentations for faculty and supervisors, case studies for small group practice, and protocols for supervisor training and data studies. The second component will be a technology-based data capture system which will allow pre-service teachers to easily access and view video of themselves as they practice data collection in the classroom and will also allow their supervisors to observe, record and review video of successful and unsuccessful data collection events.
The project will be implemented with pre-service teachers who are preparing to teach young children with autism and other developmental disabilities. Pilot data will be collected on their learning of data collection skills and the relationship between improved teacher skill and child outcomes.
