Improving the Preparation of Personnel to Serve Children with High-Incidence Disabilities
Core Function: Technical Assistance and Outreach Training
The primary goal of this project is to prepare educators to meet Washington's standards for certification in special education with an emphasis in emotional and behavioral disabilities (EBD). The project will revise and expand the focus of the current master's program in special education, recruit 10-15 preservice or practicing teachers yearly, provide tuition and stipends for 9 students yearly, and graduate 25 teachers with a masters degree and certification in special education/EBD during the grant period. Participants will: 1- be recruited from Seattle metropolitan area schools, 2- be recruited from diverse cultural and linguistic groups and/or individuals with disabilities, 3- do their practicum studies in high-poverty areas, and 4- if supported, agree to a 4-year commitment to teach children with EBD in high-poverty areas.
