Innovate, Improve, Include
Core Function: Technical Assistance and Outreach Training, Research and Evaluation
Innovate, Improve, Include is a national project targeting effective inclusion practices in Head Start. Inclusion refers to the full and active participation of young children with disabilities in programs with typically developing children. Head Start has a long-standing commitment to making enrollment opportunities available to children with disabilities.
Although Head Start professionals may have positive beliefs about inclusion, Head Start family members, teachers, and administrators continue to encounter practical problems and policy barriers for all children.
This project will address each barrier to increase the competence, confidence and effectiveness of personnel in Head Start programs to include children with disabilities. The project will provide information, products, training, and innovative web-based learning opportunities on family-centered support and evidence-based instructional strategies and implement innovative professional development in local Head Start programs. Office of Head Start-sponsored training and technical assistance providers will provide ongoing consultation on effective practices to Head Start programs across the country.
