distillation apparatus with thermometer
thermo well heater and lab jacks
graduated cylinder
small crystallizing dish
matches
Procedure:
Solid-Solid:
Iron filings
sucrose
large white stir bar
beaker of water
Separate sugar and iron with a magnet or by dissolution of the sugar in water.
Solid-Liquid:
Evaporate water from a brine solution
salt water mixture
crystallizing dish
hot plate
Liquid-Liquid
Distill methanol. The distillate can be lit with a match. Allow at least 30 minutes for the distillation.
50:50 methanol and H2O mixture
blue dye
Liquid-gas
Shake a bottle of soda water. Open the bottle and show the release of gas.
