Hazards:
Do not grind or mix the sugar and potassium chlorate. Potassium chlorate is a strong oxidizer. Sulfuric acid is corrosive and toxic.
Chemicals and Solutions:
1g ground sucrose
3g Potassium chlorate
conc. H2SO4
Materials:
One Crucible
One eyedropper
Procedure:
Place a mixture of 1 gm sucrose and 3 gms potassium chlorate in the crucible.
Add one drop of sulfuric acid to the mixture. (The reaction starts immediately with smoke and it will then burst into purple white flames).
