Procedure that need to be completed to gain independent access to NMR Facility is different for
- users who are members of the Chemistry Department and
- users who are not members of Chemistry Department
NEW USERS AFFILIATED TO CHEMISTRY DEPARTMENT
Gaining Independent access to the NMR spectrometers involves the following steps:
- Getting Basic Training on spectrometer by a NMR Liaison Representative of the respective research group
- Attending a short NMR Safety Training conducted by the NMR Facility staff
- Getting a key request form signed by the NMR Facility Manager after completeing the NMR Safety Training, to enter NMR lab at Room:37, Bagley Hall
- Users joining research groups in Chemistry should approach their respective NMR Liaison Representative for further details .
NEW USERS FROM OTHER DEPARTMENTS
TRAINING ON BASICS
- Users who need initial training are requested to send an email to either the Facility Manager or the Assistant Manager and schedule the training session.
- At least one training session is scheduled every week, but this is decided based on the number of training requests. Not more than four persons can be accommodated in a single session.
QUIZ
- After the training is complete, each trained user is required to take a quiz that will test the grasp of basic concepts provided in the training. This quiz can be given online via the Chemistry Department Online Course server (Chem Moodle).
- Users who completed the training should first enroll to the course NMR Facility Validation. (A course enrollment key will be provided by the Facility Manager during the training. Further details about the Chemistry Moodle site will be given during training).
- The so-called course NMR Facility Validation is a online resource that has copies of the training notes and other useful information. The quiz to be given can be accessed via the same webpage.
- Successful completion of the quiz will be automatically communicated to the Facility Manager who will contact the user directly to issue authorization to use the Facility instruments.
- Those who are unsuccessful in the Quiz shall contact the Facility Manager for further instructions and help.
