Download the Checklist of Deadlines for Final Defense (52KB pdf). Read and follow the directions and information on the Checklist very carefully. This will make your progress through the paperwork much easier. Ask Nectaria for assistance if you are unsure of any step in the process.
Basic Steps (see Checklist for full details)
- Determine a date for your Final Exam that is agreeable to all members of your committee.
- Six weeks prior to the Exam date, submit to Nectaria the Selection of Reading Committee Members (13KB pdf) form.
- Five weeks prior to the Exam date, submit a nearly final draft of your dissertation to your Reading Committee.
- Reserve a room for your Exam.
- Four weeks prior to the Exam date, download the Request for Final Examination (http://www.grad.washington.edu/forms/forms.htm) form and have all your committee members sign it or attach emails confirming date, time, and place of the Exam.
- No less than three weeks prior to the Exam date, submit the completed Request to Nectaria. NOTE: THIS IS A DEADLINE SET BY THE UW GRADUATE SCHOOL AND MUST BE MET. The form must be given to Nectaria first.
- Submit Immediate Plans (35KB pdf) form to Nectaria.
- Nectaria will receive your warrant a few days prior to your Exam and will notify you by email that you can pick it up.
- Return the signed warrant to Nectaria immediately following the Exam.
- Fulfill all dissertation requirements within 60 days from your Exam. See Graduate School guidelines at http://www.grad.washington.edu/area/currstuds.htm for details.
Leaving the Chemistry Department
- Contact Tracy Harvey (3-8183; harvey@chem.washington.edu) for an appointment for the safety check-out of your lab space.
- Obtain a check-out form from the Receptionist in Bagley Hall Room 109 and complete the steps listed.
