Interdisciplinary Research - UW Dept. of Chemistry

Graduate students admitted to a Ph.D. program can choose to work for any faculty member at the University of Washington who is a member of the graduate faculty. This includes nearly all active research faculty members at UW. The following are departments with research programs in the chemical sciences:

Biological Chemistry: Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Medicinal Chemistry, Chemical Engineering
Materials Chemistry and Engineering: Materials Science and Engineering, Bioengineering , Chemical Engineering
Environmental Chemistry: College of Ocean and Fishery Services, Chemical Engineering, Department of Atmospheric Sciences, Department of Geological Sciences .

By special arrangement, opportunities for collaborative research are also available at the following local or regional institutions:

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), a DOE-funded laboratory about 3 hours drive east of Seattle, in particular at the recently opened $250 million Environmental Molecular Science Laboratory, EMSL .
Fred Hutchison Cancer Resarch Center (FHCRC), which is located in Seattle about 5 minutes drive from the University of Washington.
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), which is located in Seattle about 15 minutes drive from the University of Washington.
