Interdisciplinary Research

Graduate students admitted to a Ph.D. program can choose to work for any faculty member at the University of Washington who is a member of the graduate faculty. This includes nearly all research active faculty members at UW. Below is a list of departments with research programs in the chemical sciences.

By special arrangement, opportunities for collaborative research are also available at

• Pacific Northwest National Laboratories, PNNL , a DOE laboratory about 3 hours drive east of Seattle, in particular at the recently opened $250 million `Environmental Molecular Science Laboratory', EMSL .
• Fred Hutchison Cancer Resarch Center, which is located in Seattle about 5 minutes drive from the University of Washington.
• National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration NOAA, which is located in Seattle about 15 minutes drive from the University of Washington.
