The instruments shown below comprise those which have some degree of general availability. Not included in the list below are instruments in the Drobny, and Varani groups which are not for general use. Unless otherwise noted, the instruments may be signed up for using a universal sign-up procedure (this will only be possible from within the University of Washington). All instruments can be assumed to be up and available, unless a message appears in the nmr signup procedure indicating otherwise. Any outside users who wish to use the instruments must first contact Rajan Paranji (206-685-2581, paranji@chem.washington.edu). Condensed NMR manuals available for downloading for U of W users: newer Bruker consoles (3 separate documents, DRX400 information covers available experiments on new Avance consoles); DRX499, DMX750, AV500, AV300, AV301 and DPX200), and Tecmag upgrades (AC200).
The DMX-750 (located in room 46 Bagley Hall) is used primarily by the Drobny, Klevit and Varani research groups for Biophysical NMR studies. Approximately 25% of the time on the instrument is available for non-core users who must apply for time (rules and online application form are available to U of W users).
The AV-500 (located in room 37 Bagley Hall)is the oldest
instrument
in the Department, having its orginal (not current) magnet dating from 1981. This instrument is
used primarily for non-critical work requiring high fields. The instrument has been upgraded with a new Bruker Avance console in August 2003.
The DRX499 (located in room 37 Bagley Hall)is the workhorse 2D proton and inverse detected X instrument. The console for this instrument is a recent AVANCE upgrade with 3 channels and gradients (Feb. 1998)
The AV-300 (located in room 33 Bagley Hall), which has been upgraded (8/2003) with new Bruker Avance hardware, is the catch-all instrument which is
used for liquids, solids and diffusion studies.
The AF-301 (located in room 37 Bagley Hall), was originally part
of
the Floss research group. It has also been upgraded (8/2003) with new Bruker Avance hardware, and is used for general purpose
multinuclear work in liquids.
The DPX-200 (located on the first floor teaching labs in CHB) is used mostly for
undergraduate teaching, however research time is available on the
instrument
during nights and weekends, and during quarter breaks.
The AC-200 (located in room 37 Bagley Hall) is a routine
walk-on instrument for short- term spectroscopy. It was upgraded in the mid 1990's with
Tecmag hardware.
