Congratulations to Jessica Pikul, who defended her Ph.D. work “Modeling Superoxide Reductase and Superoxide Dismutase Reactivity” on June 10. Originally from Sacramento, CA, Jessica attended Reed College where she earned her B.A. in Chemistry and was a thesis student of ProfessorPat McDougal. At the University of Washington she studied bioinorganic chemistry with Professor Julie Kovacs. She spent her limited free time fighting for the rights of Academic Student Employees as the Vice President of UAW 4121. Jessica plans to continue working within the labor movement while she figures out how to combine her love of chemistry and social justice into one ideal job.
