The Sultanate of Oman, located on the eastern edge of the Arabian Peninsula, is listed 21st among the 144 countries on the Global Peace Index. Oman has strong diplomatic relationships with Middle Eastern and Central Asian republics, and has maintained a positive relationship with the United States since the treaty of friendship and navigation with Muscat in 1833.
Students will be based in Muscat, the gleaming white capital city, where we will partner with the World Learning Center. While in Oman, students will have the opportunity to learn from and collaborate with Omani scholars and students. Students will also be able to engage in an independent and/or collaborative project which may be a traditional research paper or a creative artistic endeavor.
Students on this program will conduct academic fieldwork within Oman. Conditions permitting, we will offer field trips for students to get comparative insights into the religion and culture of the region.
Program Description
The CHID program offers students an in depth examination of the history, culture, and politics of the Gulf region in contemporary Oman. We will use culture as a lens through which students explore Omani society, history and politics through a variety of vantage points.
