WHAT FIRST STRUCK ME ABOUT BERLIN WAS THE UNDENIABLE VITALITY OF EXPRESSION THAT EXISTS IN ALMOST EVERY POCKET OF
\n<\/em><\/strong>THE CITY.
\n<\/em><\/strong>IT FELT MORE INTERESTED IN HOW MY IDENTITY CONTRIBUTED TO THE
\nAMORPHIC NATURE OF THE CULTURE RATHER THAN THE LINES ALONG
\nWHICH THE TWO WERE CONSISTENT.
\n<\/em><\/strong>I FOUND THAT THE CONTEMPORARY BERLINER IS NOT FROM BERLIN.
\n<\/em><\/strong>PORTUGAL, SPAIN, SLOVAKIA, CANADA, BAVARIA, TURKEY, HUNGARY.
\nI MET SOMEONE FROM EVERYWHERE.
\n<\/em><\/strong>THE UMBRELLA UNDER WHICH WE ALL STOOD WAS THE DECISION TO
\nCOME TO THIS CITY.
\n<\/em><\/strong>DIFFERENCE IS CELEBRATED
\n<\/em><\/strong>NOVELTY IS BEAUTY
\n<\/em><\/strong>CONTINUOUSLY BORROWING, ADOPTING, REAPPROPRIATING
\n<\/em><\/strong>ALWAYS GREATER THAN THE SUM OF ITS PARTS.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\n<\/em><\/strong>RUINS DON\u2019T BELONG TO MUSEUMS IN ROME BUT TO THE SKATERS
\nAND THE ARTISTS AND THE TECHNO-JUNKIES WHO CLAIM THEM.
\n<\/em><\/strong>THE ARCHITECT IS THE GOD OF THE CONTEMPORARY CITY,
\n<\/em><\/strong>BUT NOT THE ALMIGHTY PUPPETMASTER PULLING THE STRINGS AND
\nMAKING THE WORLD DANCE,
\n<\/em><\/strong>RATHER THE PARENT WHO WATCHES SILENTLY AS THEIR CHILD
\nLEARNS CURSE WORDS ON THE SWING SET. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n
