Clinical Rotations
The
1st year of the 2-year Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Residency includes 2
rotations of training on the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit (in 3-month blocks),
3 months on the Consultation/Liaison Service at Children's Hospital and Regional
Medical Center, (CHRMC), 3 months at Child Study and Treatment Center, (CSTC),
the state's long-term psychiatric hospital for children and adolescents and
one day per week at the Outpatient clinic at CHRMC (for the full year).
During the 2nd year,
residents continue their outpatient care clinic with an emphasis on long-term
care. They spend one and one-half days per week at the CHRMC Outpatient Psychiatry
Clinic and complete a required rotation consulting to the Pediatric Neurology
Service. Residents are required to complete adolescent psychiatry training rotations
at Echo Glen Children's Center and provide 1 day a month of consultation to
one or more of 8 Seattle school health clinics. Residents choose from several
community consultation selectives, including Indian Health Service, Asian Counseling
and Referral, Childhaven, Harborview Medical Center's Children and Teen Clinic,
or the Odessa Brown Children's Clinic. The remainder of their time (one and
one-half days) is devoted to elective rotations designed to further enhance
or develop their skills in areas consistent with their career goals. Potential
elective opportunities include research activities, or additional outpatient,
inpatient, or community consultations. One of the residents is chosen as Chief
Resident in the 2nd year.
