The Pacific Northwest
The
University of Washington training program is located in Seattle, the Emerald
City of the Pacific Northwest, a vibrant community with a population of over
1 million in greater Seattle. The city is bordered on the east by Lake Washington
and on the west by the Puget Sound.
The Pacific Northwest
provides recreational and cultural enjoyment for every taste. It is an ideal
environment for all types of outdoor activities, including sailing, kayaking,
water skiing, windsurfing, hiking, mountain climbing, fishing and camping. Lakes,
ocean, mountains and wilderness are all within easy access of Seattle. Winter
sports include alpine and Nordic skiing and snowboarding. Five developed ski
areas are within 90 minutes of the city center.
Seattle also has a strong
commitment to the arts, with a nationally recognized opera, symphony,
ballet, several dance companies, and numerous theaters. Visual arts are well
represented by the Seattle
Art Museum, as well as by numerous smaller galleries and collections.
There is high demand
for child and adolescent psychiatrists in the Pacific Northwest and throughout
other parts of the country. Opportunities exist for the practice of child and
adolescent psychiatry in public and private settings, in HMO's and in managed
care settings. Increasing numbers of recent graduates are choosing academic
careers.
The University
of Washington offers a dynamic, quality training program, enhanced by its
location in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. It has achieved national prominence
as an institution committed to health care training. The Child and Adolescent
Psychiatry program reflects this commitment, while preparing professionals for
the diverse roles required to meet the mental health needs of children, adolescents
and their families.
