CHIMPS PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Goal:  To ethically assist in building sustainable medical and public health interventions for an underserved community in El Salvador.

Project Overview.  The primary components of each CHIMPS trip are:

A. Direct Medical Care. During the one-week trips project participants provide clinical care for hundreds of children and familes.  Referrals are made as needed to a local physician for follow-up care.

B. Public Health Interventions.  In collaboration with local health committee members, CHIMPS works to initiate meaningful, sustainable public health interventions.

Logistics:  Each year members of CHIMPS travel to the Abelines, El Salvador in late June. During the annual one-week trip, CHIMPS members collaborate with the local NGO ENLACE, local health committee members, a local physician, and the Northwestern Medical School group NU-AID to provide medical care and public health interventions.
