Ivory was a local luxury (the climate of China was warmer 3000 years ago, and elephants lived much further to the north than they do now). An elephant skeleton was found at Anyang, and even more exotic forms -- whale and rhinoceros, for example -- indicate the presence of a royal park or zoo.
