COMMON TEACHING SITUATIONS

As a TA, you may engage in one or more of a variety of interrelated teaching activities -- lecturing, class discussion, one-to-one tutoring, office hours, and grading. This section of the handbook focuses on the teaching situations and activities most commonly encountered by TAs at the University of Washington.

No matter what your TA role may be, your first step is to confer with your supervising faculty. S/he may have specific goals for the course that will influence your plans for teaching. In many cases, the professor will take the initiative to meet with you and discuss your responsibilities. However, sometimes you may need to take the first step yourself.
