Reductions in the state budget are triggering changes throughout the university, many of which have potential implications for teaching and learning.
We surveyed UW instructors during Winter 2009 to learn what changes they are anticipating and preparing for. We heard from instructors in nearly 50 departments, representing a cross-section of schools and colleges across all three campuses.
Here are some of the things we learned from the people who responded to the survey:
- They are committed to their students.
- They are dedicated to supporting student learning through active and challenging classes, engaging assignments, and meaningful feedback.
- They value partnerships with graduate teaching assistants, and consider these partnerships beneficial to everyone involved: the faculty, the graduate students, and the undergraduates in their classes.
Since many survey respondents are anticipating larger classes, fewer sections, and less TA support, they also expressed concern about how to maintain the best learning opportunities for their students after these changes are made.
This site links you to resources on a number of topics related to the changes people are anticipating:
- Re/Designing Courses
- Assignments, Projects, and Tests
- Making the Best Use of TA Time
- Supporting Learning with Technology
- Resources for Faculty, TAs, and Students
