Individual Consultations for International TAs

The ITA Program provides individual consultation services free of charge to international TAs interested in improving their teaching or their language proficiency.

ITA Program staff work primarily with newly appointed international TAs currently in teaching positions. We also try to assist other international TAs who are referred by their departments or who request ITA Program services on their own.

Consultations on Teaching

Consultations on teaching are individual meetings with an ITA Program staff member. During these meetings, we can provide you with input on your own teaching, and offer information on a variety of topics to help you develop as a teacher.

Consultations on Language

Language consultations are individual meetings with an ITA Program staff member. Together the international TA and the consultant set goals for language improvement and determine a plan for reaching these goals. Consultations focus on language proficiency specifically as it relates to the TA's roles and responsibilities in his or her own teaching situations.

Typically, much time is spent developing fluency, expression, and pronunciation. In these consultations, the TA practices language skills through a wide variety of language learning techniques, many using audio and videotaping.

See the International TA Resources for additional resources that can help you work on your English language skills.
