Making the Most of Your TimeTo help you make the most of your time as you plan for teaching and learning online, this collection of resources presents lessons that have already been learned through program assessment, research, and best practices in online teaching and learning environments. In many ways, effective teaching with the web is similar to effective teaching in a classroom. However, moving some or all of the instruction online creates changes of venue and changes of medium which influence how this effectiveness is maintained. For example, the rapport that develops between the instructor and students is still an important contributor to teaching and learning, but rapport doesn't develop in the same ways without the benefit of face-to-face communication, non-verbal cues, and informal interactions that can readily take place in traditional classroom settings. In this case, an instructor preparing for online teaching and learning will want to consider how some of the same effects created in a classroom to build rapport can be created by other means online. Based on data collected from PMHNP faculty and students during 2003 and 2004, CIDR has identified the following factors to consider when planning for a course that is taught fully or partially online:
