Japanese Americans, Chinese
Americans, and Filipino Americans forged an Asian American movement
in the late 1960s. Based initially on college campuses (both UW and
Seattle Central) the movement caught public attention with a
series of protests over the location of the Kingdome in 1972.
More important were the
successful efforts to preserve Chinatown and the International District.
