This is part of the mural “Aztlan,” painted at the Ethnic Cultural Center by Emilio Aguayo (1971). The Chicano students of MEChA established a floor in a UW dorm that was solely for Chicanos.  They also helped UW become more outwardly diverse by arranging for murals—an important aspect of Mexican culture—to be painted in prominent areas on the UW campus, including the Ethnic Cultural Center, itself a result of student activism.
