During the late Summer Term in 2008 (20 August - 19 Sept) the Law, Socieites and Justice (LSJ) Program and the UW School of Law will offer a study abroad program in Rome, Italy. We are keeping the numbers small, tailoring the courses to what we can immediately take advantage of in Rome and Italy and asking students to come prepared to participate and engage their surroundings so that we can ensure everyone emerges from this study abroad experience feeling fuller, as students, as tourists and as people. This unique program offers 3 courses (12 credits in total) and brings together faculty from across the University of Washington campus including the LSJ Program, the School of Law, and French & Italian Studies.

This program will be based at the UW Rome Center (pictured below) housed in the 17th century Palazzo Pio in the heart of historic Rome - Campo de' Fiori. This piazza is an open-air fruit and vegetable market by day and a gathering place by night. The Rome Center provides classroom space, a computer lab, a library and logistical assistance. Please visit their website for further information about the Center and also an excellent set of links to information about Rome and Italy. Click here for UW Rome Center
You will find some more information in the program brochure about financial assistance. Financial aid is available for a summer quarter study abroad program. The Office of International Programs and Exchanges also offers a scholarship for undergraduate students who wish to study abroad. Information can be found here: http://www.ipe.washington.edu/forms/IPEApplication.pdf Scholarships range in amounts from $100 to $1,000. The deadline for scholarship applications for summer programs is April 15th. There are also a limited number of work study employment opportunities for students at the UW Rome Center (e.g. Working in the Rome Center library). For Law Students, financial aid is also available for summer quarter study abroad.
