NOAA Tsunami Benchmark Tests of GeoClaw

benchmark site: nctr.pmel.noaa.gov/benchmark/

Our group at the University of Washington is currently attempting to perform all of the benchmark tests presented on the above webpage using the GeoClaw software. Our goal is to complete at least some of these problems by March 30, 2011 for a benchmarking workshop for the National Tsunami Hazard Mitigation Program.

We have encountered a number of challenges due to incomplete data or incompletely specified requirements. As we solve these problems we will attempt to provide as much additional information and data as possible on these webpages for the use of other groups. We will also provide our solutions and the codes used to generate them.

If you have data that might help in this process, please contact Randy LeVeque (rjl at uw.edu) or Frank González (figonzal at uw.edu).

We have also created a wiki and Subversion repository to assist in sharing data and tools. Benchmarkers can request login permission to add data.

11 March 2011 Honshu Event

The recent event has refocused efforts to some extent. We are now also using the wiki to gather data from this event.
