Annual Business Meeting -- June 15, 2000

Chair Mel Knight called the meeting to order at 8:10 a.m. and began introductions.

  • Reports:

    Approval of Minutes -- 
    Minutes of the July 7, 1999 business meeting were distributed and verbally summarized.  Motion to accept by Tackitt.  Second by Treser.  Minutes approved.

    Presidentís Report -- 

  • Chair Knight reported on completion of winter 1999 journal, proposed winter meeting on technology, silent auction item (binoculars), Chuck Treserís work on web site and participation on the CDC Environmental Health Competencies Work Group.  

  •  
  • Priority projects for 2000 ­ 2001 are increasing NCLEHAís electronic presence as a primary communication method, changing from the traditional newsletter to a shorter newsletter that would be published more frequently, sponsoring a management information system work shop at the 2001 NEHA Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.

  • Treasurerís Report -- 
    Treasurer Treser reported that the balance as of May 31, 2000, is $3,271.37.  There are 44 active members.  Full report will be forwarded electronically.

    Old Business:
     

  • Non-Profit Status --

  • 1999 non-profit corporation registration in the State of Michigan was on August 30, 1999.  Renewal will be anticipated in September, 2000.  The cost of registration was $10.00.
     
  • Ribbons ­

  • NCLEHA ribbons will be obtained for members attending the NEHA 2001 Conference - Tackitt.

    New Business:

    Expand web site --
    Efforts will be made to increase member awareness and use of electric communication to exchange management information.  Survey will be conducted in conjunction with membership updates to obtain members email addresses.

    Management Information Workshop (NEHA 2001) --
    Warren Abrahams volunteered to work with Mel Knight to put this session together.

    Georgia Environmental Health Association 2000 Annual Education Conference, July 12 through 14, 2000 --
    Warren Abrahams invited members of NCLEHA to the conference.

    Elections:

  • Trustee positions of Galvan and Moberly expire in 2000.
  • Nominations ­  Riggs & Wittkopf
  • Knight moved for nominations closed and election by acclamation.  Support by Tackitt.
  • Riggs and Wittkopf elected to trustee positions expiring 2002.

  • Items from Members:

    IEHFF -- 
    Treser reported on World Environmental Health Conference in Oslo, Norway.  The conference is conducted every two years.  The next conference will be in 2002 in San Diego, California.

    California AEC --
    Knight reported that the next California Environmental Health Conference will be May, 2001, in Sacramento, California.

    Good of the Organization:

  • Suggestion of NCLEHA advertisement in the 2001 NEHA Conference manual.

  •  
  • Set of binoculars purchased for 2000 silent auction.  Motion to purchase another silent auction time for 2001.  Motion by Riggs.  Second by Tackitt.  Motion approved.

  •  
  • Riggs expressed that he was glad to be able to participate and see members again.  Was not able to attend last years meeting.

  •  
  • Wittkopf led discussion on what model works for state public health organizations.  Described system recently put in place in Wisconsin.  Discussion on how NCLEHA might interact with these organizations.

  •  
  • Brunwasser suggested sending NCLEHA information to NEHA members who have pre-registered to promote the organization.

  •  
  • Abrahams suggested that notation be printed in NEHA attendance list indicating NCLEHA membership.

  •  
  • Coll suggested that NCLEHA promotion be part of the 2001 management information system session.

  •  
  • Knight led discussion on NCLEHA representation on committees and responsibility to report back to organization.  Committee appointments will be reviewed and reaffirmed.

  • Adjournment:
    Motion to adjourn by Tackitt.  Second by Treser.  Meeting adjourned 9:10 a.m.
