Event Details

Our most recent speaker was Susan Avila-Smith, a United States Army veteran and the Director of Women Organizing Women, a support and advocacy organization for survivors of Military Sexual Trauma (MST).  She explained how her own experience with MST led her to a campaign to hold military sex offenders accountable, and to provide relief and veteran’s benefits for other survivors.

Winter 2012: The Future of Food

The Clowes Center Film and Speaker Series highlights various dimensions of the theme of violence through public screenings and discussions of selected feature films and documentaries. The series began in 2009 focused on the themes of memory and reconciliation. During 2011-2012, the series will focus on civic participation and political activism.

    Langston Hughes Center 7-9pm 23rd and Union “A docu-drama that weaves real interviews with fictional characters to investigate the 2008 murder of Degene Berecha in the popular Seattle restaurant “Philadelphia Cheese-Steak”. The film is an ADAPTED story and is used as a vehicle to discuss gentrification and the tension between young African-American men, Ethiopian immigrants and gay couples in Seattle’s Central District.”
