Oct 25^th: Mike and Kelvin talked on the phone, here are the details of the conversation:

 

1. UW Human Subject guidelines
   1. We have received approval on our exemption application (valid for 5 years for this project)
   2. We must:

                                                    i.     Opt-Out-Form: students must be given the opt-out form, where they can contact Becky and opt-out from the research study. Mike and Kelvin _will not_ know which of the students have opted out.

                                                   ii.     Assign each student a pseudo-name: [besides the students, Becky will be the only person who know the pseudo-name to student mapping]

                                                  iii.     Student will use their pseudo-names on all of the surveys:

1.      pre-course background/attitude survey

2.      post-assignment reflection survey

3.      post-course attitude survey

                                                  iv.     Becky will collect, for each student:

1.      Pre/Post tests, midterm, final exam

2.      All survey forms [Survey on line?]

Becky will then _destroy_ all the students’ names so that Mike and Kelvin has no way of knowing which result belongs to which students. All we have are collection of students results. Mike and Kelvin will know how Student-A has done, what is her background/attitude. Since the names of students are destroyed, Mike and Kelvin will not know the name of Student-A.

 

2. Assessment details: [to be re-confirmed with everyone!]
   1. Pre-course background/attitude survey: Becky will attend and assignment students pseudo-names
   2. Post-assignment reflection survey: Mike will hand the forms to students:

                                                    i.     how to we handle the pseudo-names?

                                                   ii.     A student volunteer will leave the form with CCC somewhere and

                                                  iii.     Becky will pick up the forms afterwards?

3. Post-assignment attitude survey: Becky will administer this.
4. Pre-Post tests, Mid-term, Final: Mike will administer these.
5. Mike will forward all per/post, mid-term, final exam results to Becky at the end of quarter.
6. Becky will remove student names, tally results and create electronic versions so that the results can be stored into CVS.

 

3. CVS structure, we have created Support/ClassRoomAssessment to organize store all the results.

 

 

Action Items, Mike will:

 

1. Move the survey on-line and forward the administrator privilege to Becky (so that Mike cannot access the Survey results).
2. Design post tests for 143 assignments.
