Report
(XNA Based Games-Themed Programming
Assignments)
Over
the past month we have accomplished:
- In classroom assessment: this is on-going, progresses
well and strong.
- XNA-based introductory programming class with games: we
have completed the planning for this class and have constructed an initial
set of materials. We are very excited by this class and believe there is a
very interesting potential for attracting new population to the CS
discipline. We are taking our materials and visiting all sophomore classes
on campus to demonstrate to students how they can all build a game when
learning how to program. We are optimistic this will be a success.
- Hosted John Nordlinger from MSR on a talk on the ethics
of computer games. This is an important piece of informaiton linking the
game-themed assignments to real world implication. The talk went amazingly
well. After the talk, we had the opportunities to talk about the
implications of different types of games and social responsibility we have
as citizens.
- GDCSE and SIGCSE: between these two conferences we have
4 presentations, two for the papers, and two for the tutorials (including
the full day workshop at SIGCSE). We have been (and still are) busy
preparing for these presentations.
