Admission Criteria for the Master of Science in Construction Management: Undergraduate Degree Requirements and Pre-requisites: Students with a baccalaureate degree (B.S. or B.A.) in construction management, building construction, building technology, or construction technology from an accredited college or university in the United States, or its equivalent from a foreign institution, can apply to our M.S. program directly as no pre-requisite or remedial courses are required. Students with a baccalaureate degree (B.S. or B.A.) in civil engineering, architecture, architectural engineering or similar fields from an accredited college or university in the United States, or its equivalent from a foreign institution, can also apply to our M.S. program directly as no pre-requisite courses are required. However, these students will be required to take several remedial courses after admission unless they can provide documentation (transcripts) showing equivalent courses in their background. Since only graduate courses (500 or above) can be counted toward degree requirements, these remedial courses will not be counted toward the 45 credits needed to earn a M.S. degree in Construction Management. Student with backgrounds others than the ones listed above must complete a series of pre-requisite courses before they become eligible for admission. These pre-requisite courses are satisfied by completing the Construction Management Certificate Program offered by the University of Washington. This certificate program is availale both as a regular class-based program and also on-line. Grade Point Average, GRE, and TOEFL Requirements: A grade point average of 3.0 or better is required for all students, based on the last 60 graded semester hours or last 90 graded quarter hours of undergraduate and graduate study. All applicants must also submit Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores, a statement of goals and objectives, and letters of recommendation. Information for International Applicants: International applicants whose first language is not English must submit a valid Test of English as a Foreign Language or Michigan Language Test (MLT) score. A minimum score of 580 (TOEFL) or 237 (TOEFLC), or 90 on the MLT is required for admission to the program. The requirement for the GRE may be waived for individuals who have earned an advanced degree (master's or higher) from accredited U.S. institutions. To schedule a GRE exam, call 1-800-GRE-CALL, or see the GRE Web site at www.gre.org. To obtain copies of your GRE scores, call 1-888-GRE-SCORE. The following codes should be used to direct your scores: University of Washington, code #4854, Department of Construction Management, code #5199. Information about the TOEFL Exam: Applicants who are not citizens of the United States must provide an official TOEFL score of at least 580 (237 on the computerized exam), unless they are citizens of Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, or the United Kingdom, or hold a bachelor's or advanced degree from an accredited institution in any of these countries. Graduate Non-matriculated Status (GNM): For those who either are not sure about the degree or are concerned about their academic and professional backgrounds, another option is to enroll first as a graduate non-matriculated (GNM) student. GNM students are not presently seeking a degree, but may apply a maximum of 12 graduate level credits toward degree requirements should they be accepted into a graduate program. It is important to note that acceptance as a GNM student does not imply admission to a graduate degree program. The GNM application and instructions are available on-line. Note that in Box #22 (Program to Which You Are Applying), you must fill in Construction Management. Please submit the completed application and required transcripts to the address listed in the instructions. In addition, please send a copy of the application form with a brief statement of objectives to the appropriate department.
